I only ask because I think we have sinned. Well, I have in fairness. I brought Bryony home with the intention of giving her exterior a really good clean after our recent trip away in Italy. All the equipment was ready including two spray bottles of black streak cleaner. I’d even duct taped an old toothbrush to a pole to reach those ‘hard to reach places’ on the roof top and just above the cab windscreen.
We must wash Bryony out on our road. It is a residential
street with parking on either side and bus route too. It can be difficult
putting a step ladder up the road side of Bryony!
I climbed the ladder to start washing the roof and
discovered that the ladder was wobbling. Or maybe it was me who was wobbling. I
can’t be sure. Either way, it was difficult and awkward and for the first time
since we have had her, I decided to abandon the wash.
We took it up the road to a dealership, who for £149 did a
very thorough exterior clean and scrub. Not all the black stuff got cleaned off
some of the sealant joins but I can do a follow up with my toothbrush pole. The
main thing is she sparkled.
It is her very first professional exterior wash and clean.
It isn’t going to be an annual event. I will do her next year and the next year
after – twice a year. But once in four
years is OK. Isn’t it?
Bryony is now back on her storage site, sparkling inside and out. We have winterised her. The tanks have been fully drained; seals sprayed with silicon spray. The sticky habitation door lock which wouldn't open with the fob? WD40 sorted that one! Works perfectly now.
We will take her out every three or four weeks for a run over the winter period, just to top up the battery charges. The new solar panels and MPPT controller did an excellent job through last winter of keeping the batteries topped up, so they should do it again this year too.
2024! We managed to do six weeks in Spain, six weeks in Tuscany, Five weeks touring the north and east of England, and a few shorter trips away in SW England. Its been a good year. Now we start the winter planning for 2025 trips.
