We have fitted a new habitation door lock to compliment our existing security features on Bryony. We got it done at our newish local motorhome fitting centre five minutes down the road from us. They are an outstanding outfit, really knowing their business and they focus on great customer service at all times.

I did debate doing it myself - it isn't that complicated to be honest - it fits onto the side frame of the habitation door with just two screws. However, we decided that the price for supplying and fitting it was very reasonable and it would save me some hassle and eliminate the potential disasters and chaos I could cause when let loose with a drill, two screws and a habitation door frame! Well that was Mag's assessment. It was nice for a change not to hear the refrain "Well if you can build your own boat, you can......."

She clearly loves Bryony much more that she says or lets on! 😂

Anyway, it is one more layer in the armoury designed to slow down or deter potential thieving miscreants. 😟 I'm sure it is crackable but the aim is to delay, confuse and make 'em 'walk on by!'

How does it work? The lock just slides across the door - push the silver lock in - secures it and stops it moving. Unlock it and the silver lock pops out, allowing you to slide the lock back and forth. Our fitting team secured it with two screws but also some adhesive sealant as well, so it seems pretty secure on the side panel of the motorhome. You drive with it slid back and locked - so that you can get out in an emergency. Similarly, when in  the motorhome, you leave it in this 'open' but locked position so that you can get out of the door in an emergency. It is NOT one of those locks which you can open from the inside. Our fly screen and inner frame surround prevents such a lock from being fitted.

When you leave the motorhome parked up, you slide the lock across the habitation door and lock it in place. We had ours fitted just below the habitation door lock so that the door is secured in two places and also with deadbolts as well.
