October 13th day forty-seven
We cycle along the Canal du Midi right into centre of Toulouse. A lovely bike ride along the towpath past tall trees, a canal port, liveaboard barge communities and the back area of the giant Airbus factory units. Toulouse – the ‘pink city’ has stunning architecture and its synagogue is truly massive. We stop in the very chic outer suburb of Auban for coffee; here we find lots of students of photography and fashion strolling about. Many spoke good English. An area of great pavement cafes and patisseries. The city is very easy to cycle around – a round trip of 26 miles there and back.
On the way back I develop a serious hip problem which all but incapacitates me for a few minutes. I can just about cycle but I can’t walk properly. It’s painful and not a good omen for my long-term walking and cycling plans! My medical woes aren’t over for the day either. Back at the motorhome, I take my evening vitamin chewy tablet and to my horror a crown/cap falls out. Hip pain and tooth ache! I can’t walk. I can’t chew. A sharp part of the exposed tooth is catching my tongue and now I am emailing every dentist in the vicinity to see if they can do an emergency appointment for tomorrow! Ho Hum!
