October 20th Day fifty-four
Is Auray in France worth visiting?
We call in at Auray and its little port down the hill. Auray is a stunning little town, medieval
timbered houses, quirky shops, great little port and possessing a talented
local artist community. We are sat having coffee in a quayside bar opposite
four old 19th century luggers, pulling gently on their moorings. I
even get to help one come alongside, catching the thrown moorings and quickly
looping them over mooring bollards. All great fun. I am a small boat sailor
after all.
Later we head off to the megaliths at Locmariquer. Three
fairly good burial chambers and collapsed menhirs. 6 euros each is a little
steep for an entry fee though! Our overnight stop is at the Carnac standing
stones museum car park. A free stop shared with two other motorhomes.
Our waste tank sensor isn't working. It keeps getting stuck
on 100% when it is self-evidently empty. The alarm keeps going off. Tried
resetting and now resorting to ten litres of cheap coke down the tank to be swirled
around on a long journey tomorrow. Hopefully it will clean the tank and drop
the sensor arm to its correct position.
Sunset across the Carnac stones is amazing. Gates and fences block access to them sadly. I remember coming here in the early eighties when you could wander freely amongst them. Changing times, eh?
We have both finally tested negative for Covid at long last
but still suffer occasional aches and pains, coughs and fuzziness. We had it nasty, even with the vaccines and
booster!
