A delayed departure to our bike ride as we sit listening to the extended ‘Today’ programme. Chris Mason announced that he is getting a phone call ‘now’ that he thinks will tell him that the PM is resigning as party leader and will be stepping down before the party conference in October. (It turned out to be a monumental morning with over 55 government resignations, forcing him out of office.)

Enough politics! We survived a night off grid through using phone hotspot, iPad and also my portable ‘Big Blue’ camping solar panel to charge up the phones.

We haven’t gone far on the bikes. You know why!

We’ve stopped a mile up the road at a lovely cafe in Porthscatho (what a surprise eh?) Here, we are chatting to a retired couple, one of whom was a former head and school improvement leader about the current state of education in schools and how our sense of citizenship and of democracy and our individual roles in it need to be strengthened. More about our responsibilities and possibly less about our own individual rights ..... seems to be the consensus between us.

Arriving an hour later down at St Mawes, we have forgotten how stunningly beautiful this place is. We sit back from the main harbour on some benches overlooking a stunning little beach with views out to Carrick's Road’s. Turquoise seas and light white gold sands...almost Mediterranean in nature.

For those of you who have never visited and are thinking of doing so, there is a large harbour car park and no barriers or overhead height restrictions. The streets are busy, the ferry is doing a brisk trade.

From our little bench we listened to the PM's resignation speech...one in which he blamed others for his downfall. No contrition, no remorse, no acceptance he had made mistakes. That figures!

After a picnic we are off to the castle where we find great views across Carrick Roads. It’s a small car park though, tough for coach-built moho’s room wise. Then it is back up the road to St Just, down the hill to Pasco’s boatyard for quick checkout and then a stop off half way up hill at the café opposite the famous St Just Church and gardens for cake and drinks. Back past the campsite down to St Anthony Head and the old gun emplacements we whizz for more splendid views out to sea.

Cracking weather, lovely breeze, stunning views.

Back on site now, I’m preparing for a stargazing session. The moon is low and disappearing as the milky way rises. The first of three clear nights. Talk about the stars being aligned .... boom, boom, .... see what I did there 🤣
