Day Three: a day of rest!
The weather
forecast is not promising, showers and blustery conditions. We awake with aches
and pains. Even with electric bikes, yesterday’s route was physically
demanding. In addition, it is Sunday, which can only mean one thing – Sunday
papers and coffee!
But where to
go?
Woolacombe as
it happens! The street spaces are full. The carpark when we arrive is empty. A
lazy day – read the papers, stroll the beach? Yes please. £10 for the day, so
in we go.
The only
space we can find that can accommodate a large 6.8m long motorhome with bike
rack is right at the front overlooking the beach. We reverse into a bay and
hang the bike rack out over the public pavement at the rear, still leaving
space for people to pass. We meet the car park attendant doing his litter clean
and we have a ten-minute chat and he confirms we have parked wisely and he is
happy for us to overhang the path a little. Behind the path is a grass area so
there is plenty of passing space for pedestrians.
Breakfast,
coffees, papers, rain on the roof top drumming a rhythmic tattoo. What’s not to
love. The hardy few begin to arrive in dribs and drabs; battle hardened surfers
and bodyboarders – wetsuits clad and in bare feet, tip toeing across the car
park. No rain will put them off.
Over the
course of the morning, the clouds clear, the sun breaks out and the car park fills
up. We opt for a three-mile stroll along the beach. The further you head
towards Putsborough Sands, the wilder and less populated the beach and dunes
become. As the tide retreats, we beach comb the tide line. A refreshing stroll
there and back in salt tanged, spray laden air.
Just what we
need.
