April 23rd Day Seven – Seaview Farm, Mullion
We decide to have breakfast at Lizard Point and so we
quickly pack up Bryony and at 0830 head up the road to the Mullion Co-op
to buy the Saturday papers.
We head back down the A3083 to The Lizard, drive
through the village and head out to the National Trust car park at The Lizard
Lighthouse. It is a narrow approach road and I have barely eight inches either
side of my wheel sides. Thank heavens for low walls beneath the wing mirror
heights. I know it’s doable because I can see several large builders’ vans and
a council van tipper truck up ahead but I still suck in my breath on several
occasions, hoping that Bryony will suddenly and miraculously shrink in
width.
We park up with a splendid view of storm-tossed seas
out of the front windscreen. It is a leisurely breakfast. The winds have not
relented but we are entertained by a huge flock of seagulls performing a
magnificent aerial ballet of long soars and swoops in the currents high above
the cliff tops. It is mesmerising. Meanwhile Jackdaws, Bullfinches and Long
Tailed Tits hug the ground, making short quick flights across the short grass. At
sea huge waves break against rocky outcrop islets sending spray thirty metres
or more into the air, which is hazy due to the salt and spume whipped away on
the winds. Slate grey-green seas and lines of white horses in brilliant
sunshine. It’s very ‘romantically’ moody!
We opt for a long walk westwards towards Kynance Cove,
the wind to our backs or sides. Heading into the wind today along cliff tops is
for the brave and/or the foolhardy. The scenery is spell bounding.
Back at the point, having seen several very large seals
on the way, we visit the little craft and art shops and call in at one of the
two most southerly cafés in the UK.
It’s a lazy day. We didn’t do much to be honest. after a stroll through Lizard village, back
at the farm, we caught up with some much-needed washing and routine chores like
cleaning the bathroom and kitchen areas. But then, sometimes, you just need to
have the chilling out days, don’t you?
